The American Music Awards are coming up shockingly fast. As the year ends, award shows start to crop up every which way. Usually when it comes to music awards there is little love given to the dance music community as a whole. The Grammy's actually hold almost all the dance music related awards off air. It takes an actually phenomenal dance album to catch the public's attention. Daft Punk was able to do this many years ago when they swept the awards and even brought home Album of the Year for their landmark release, ‘Random Access Memories'.
AMA's Honor EDM
The other way we are able to see dance music industry members be recognized is when artists collaborate with pop stars. The Chainsmokers are a perfect example of this, as their mainstream success had them performing their hit single ‘Closer' all over the map last year. Now we see the AMA's going out of their way to feature dance music artists, and it feels pretty good.
Zedd and Alessia Cara will be performing their massive hit record, ‘Stay' during the awards and Florida Georgia Line and Alesso will also take the stage to perform their cross over hit, ‘Let Me Go'. Outside of the dance music world only one artist truly shines through in terms of nominations. That is, of course, The Chainsmokers. The duo is up for Favorite Song Pop/Rock, Collaboration of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Favorite Duo or Group Pop/Rock. The track they are being nominated across the board for is of course, ‘Closer'. The awards will take place on ABC this Sunday, November 19th at 8 pm eastern standard time.
