DIRTYBIRD don Claude VonStroke has been hard at work these past few months. After finishing up 2017 touring with his green-haired Get Real companion, Green Velvet, the bass dad announced a 9-date European tour and released his massive collaboration with EPROM, Grenade. The track has been dominating tech-house and techno sets globally, earning support from Jamie Jones, Cirez D & Adam Beyer. Now, after a sold-out Space stop with his fellow DIRTYBIRD players in Miami, Claude VonStroke returns with his latest EP – Walay (My Bae), out April 27th.
This two tracker delves deeper than simple dance floor filler, with the EP’s lyrics exploring dualities and challenges, and the highs and lows of life.
The title song leads with a melodic riff and a funky vocal that sounds like a defective cyborg is proclaiming love for his partner, “Walay.” The sound harkens back to old classic rave tracks but is a modern love-song. On the flip, “Raw Nerve” is an emotional exploration. A melancholy VonStroke dives deep into his insecurities and fears; you can feel social instability oozing out of the vocal and a violently hard bassline that embodies the personal angst and frustration that goes along with not “fitting in.”
