The word swarm is defined as a large number of animate or inanimate things massed together and usually in motion to move somewhere in large numbers. That is also the perfect way to describe the reaction of dark, mid-tempo, house fans to the Floridian producer/dj Swarm. A relatively newcomer to the scene, Swarm made a big splash with is debut, a dark 3 track EP titled Corrupt which can be heard Here.
Music comes in peaks and valley’s and you can feel the focus moving from lighter pop-driven EDM gods of Zedd and The Chainsmokers to the darker realm of Rezz, Blackgummy, and the recent success of 1788-L.
Nightmare, the latest Swarm release on Nightenjin Records, is an aptly named Dark House track. The song starts off with haunting vocals that immediately bring Jigsaw from the Saw movies to mind. Marching Band snare rolls take you to the wobbly bassline that serves as the backbone to the track. Swarm tracks all have an edge to them, whether it’s a saturated bassline to give it a darker edge or some distortions tweaks here and there. The bottom of the second drop falls out revealing the aforementioned darkness that. Listen to Nightmare below.
