All I can say about this track is wow. When I first heard that Martin Garrix was working with Khalid I was curious which direction the collaboration would take. I was a bit nervous that this collaboration would end up as another future bass/big room track that would be lost in time pretty quickly. Instead, Martin demonstrated his innate talent as a producer and utilized Khalid's powerful vocals to create a hauntingly beautiful record.
Martin Garrix and Khalid – ‘Ocean'
Khalid has one of the best voices we have heard in quite some time. It has a captivating, soulful quality to it. Khalid's voice is like bacon, add it to anything and it will end up better than the original. ‘Ocean' is a slow, pensive track complete with melodic break and instrumentation. The song slowly drives forward over 3 and a half minutes, and when it finally ended, I immediately wanted to listen again.
Khalid has worked in dance music for quite some time now. While he had some incredible success with both Marshmello and Calvin Harris, it seems that his best work has come from the mind of Martin Garrix. This track is absolutely a standout in 2018. Check it out below.
