In an effort to save oceans and raise awareness, Electric Zoo festival has made a commitment to be plastic straw free for this year's event.
The National Academy of Sciences estimated that up to 71% of Seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics inside their stomachs. The plastic from the straws that find their way into the ocean never biodegrade, and instead break down into small particles called ‘microplastics' that continue pose a huge threat to the lives of all marine life, including fish. Researchers predict that there will be more plastic than fish in our waters by 2050 if this harmful trend continues.
To combat this, Electric Zoo has made it a priority to eliminate plastic straws at their event, with paper alternatives being available only if absolutely necessary. In addition, Ezoo has teamed up with Clean Vibes, a top leader in environmentally friendly event waste management, in hopes educating festival goers how to minimize their waste footprints through recycling in their daily lives.
