The up and coming producer known as LICK has put together a seven-track artist compilation released on the Synesthesia label based out of Paris, France called the Blood Moon EP. The artists selected by LICK share his dark industrial sound and together they have curated an extremely powerful EP.
The in your face, power sludge, style of music is nothing new. Producers such as Zeds Dead, Bassnectar, Shadient, ill.Gates, have been pushing limits for years. The latest group to help carry the torch, producers such as Rezz, 1788-L, blanke. k?d, have all helped usher in younger fans to the genre.
LICK leads the EP off with his track OVER. A tone setting track that perfectly mixes buzz-sawing synths and striking vocals.
Canadian producer ZABO is next up with Schizophrenia, a dark thumping track that I found to have just the right vibe for the compilation.
Social Kid follows up with Crystal Satellite, a bassy midtempo track with a fantastic breakdown that brings a light melody in only to be snatched away by the ocean of bass that washes over you.
Next up you have No Etiquette, whose sound design is on par with top-tier producers, dropping the song Traveler; a fantastic track that has a bit of a pliable feel to it with parts of the song that seems to stretch and bend time.
Krilla follows that track up with his song Malice. Channeling his inner Nosia, Krilla brings a bit of drum and bass to the EP before the bottom falls out and you are left with a monster track that won me over on the snare drum alone.
The eternal nightmare that is SWARM brings his terrifying vision to the EP with Breathe; a bloodcurdling song whose melody lives on the black keys of the piano. However, the notes are the only thing flat on Breathe, which includes SWARM's own guitar playing over razor sharp synths.
Closing out the Blood Moon EP is Voliik, from Denmark, with Eclipse; a face melting bass track that is right at home in this collection of songs.
