I can't be the only one who has distinct nostalgic flashbacks from the first time I heard Utada Hikaru's “Simple and Clean,” in the opening of the original Kingdom Hearts for Playstation 2. A deep, driving melodic jam that sucks the listener in almost immediately and sets the tone for the incredible world that is to come, the Japanese-American singer songwriter's tracks have been iconic in the making of the games.
Now with the massive more than 13 year build up and long-awaited release of Kingdom Hearts 3 this January some exciting news has emerged. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has listed a song called “FACE MY FEARS”, which is also known as “OPENING THEME (KINGDOM HEARTS 3)” with writing credits to Sonny “Skrillex” Moore along with producer Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd, and of course Utada Hikaru. Our gears are spinning wildly as to what creation could come of this but we have no doubt it will be truly incredible.
Kingdom Hearts has been heralded long and far as a true gem and has since had a massive cult following – seeing the purchase of over 24 million copies of various games and spinoffs. Sonny himself has shown to be a fan of the series, tweeting out an iconic still from the original game back in 2016.
