Last week, Deadmau5 made headlines after a rant of his from January went viral for all the wrong reasons. In the video Deadmau5 can be heard referring to Slushii's music as “AIDS Music” and “Autistic”. The comments were particularly poorly received because Slushii himself, has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
Hours after the news of the video broke, Deadmau5 released a statement explaining that he was upset with his attitude towards the dance music industry in years past, and felt he had failed himself. He then explained he would be taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on himself.
Deadmau5 Pulls Out Of Headlining Slot
This week we have found that Deadmau5 was quite serious about his hiatus. He has pulled himself from the headlining slot at the Washington D.C. festival – Club House.
The festival was quite generous with the circumstances and offered everyone who purchased a ticket a $45 refund due to the headlining change. While we do not condone Deadmau5's comments, we are happy to see him taking steps towards improving his mental health. It's okay to not be okay, and self-care should be held above all.
