I was just looking on Instagram and noticed that DJ Mag #1 DJ Martin Garrix hasn't even mentioned anywhere on his socials about being #1 on the DJ Mag poll and that seemed kind of odd to me, so I decided to look at a few more of artists social accounts to see if they acknowledged their placements, and boy was I shocked.
Martin Garrix (#1), Hardwell (#3), Armin van Buuren (#4), & Tiesto (#6) all haven't even ACKNOWLEDGED the DJ Mag Top 100 list, and I only have looked through the top 6. Other massive DJ's such as Laidback Luke, Gareth Emery, Dillon Francis, Diplo, 3lau, Deadmau5 & more have all openly bashed the credibility of the poll, some even refusing to partake in it all together.
I don't remember a year where this poll has ever been as useless. Call me crazy, but maybe we stop doing these stupid DJ ranks? What other music genre ranks their artists by some ridiculous poll that has no data or facts behind it? Why is this ACTUALLY needed? All it does is divide fans, lead to disheartened DJ's who didn't make it, and promotes false success through purchased votes and vote manipulation.
I honestly think DJ Mag, Billboard, reddit & everywhere else should stop ranking DJ's. I know this won't ever happen, but it for SURE seems like people are caring less and less about these polls. You can't “rank” a techno DJ up against a dubstep DJ, and you can't rank a house DJ up against a hardstyle DJ as their scenes are completely different.
What do you think?
