This past weekend, DJ-producer, Nitti Gritti, took the stage at EDC Orlando not just once, but twice. The rising star performed at one of the festival's biggest stages, Circuit Grounds, and at the Corona Electric Beach stage. The humble yet talented music maker gave it his all at this year's event. He took some time out of his busy schedule to talk with EDM Sauce about his performance, his Drive EP, his motivation to release new music, and much more.
EDM Sauce
“Thank you for doing this interview. Last EDC Orlando, you played in the Boombox Artcar and now, this year, you transitioned into Circuit Grounds which is one of the biggest stages here. How was it like with your performance today?”
Nitti Gritti
“It feels good to work for something and go from one stage to the next. It's really exciting.”
EDM Sauce
“Was there a feeling of euphoria?”
Nitti Gritti
“Yeah, there was definitely a few moments where I just wanted to enjoy the show and enjoy my own music on the stage.”
EDM Sauce
“I heard that you got off the stage and actually tried to hang out with your fans.”
Nitti Gritti
“Yeah, 100%! We're going to do a meet and greet. I'm always trying to hang out with people.”
EDM Sauce
“You recently released your Drive EP. Can you tell me a little a bit about the inspiration you had when you were creating it?”
Nitti Gritti
“I love trap music, rap and hip-hop infused with electronic music. So it was basically just thinking of ways to fix those. It's kind of like a drive, like literally the word drive. That's kind of how I felt with different kinds of moments in my career, like just trying to push through the industry and become successful. That's really what it's about, with the EP at least.”
EDM Sauce
“You've definitely been releasing a lot of music in the last few months alone. Tell me, how do you motivate yourself to release music so fast and to create it?”
Nitti Gritti
“You just have to have inspiration. If you listen to some of my music, it's clearly spread out and different. There are times where I hear something and I'm like, ‘Oh, I should make something like that,” and I do it and then we plan it and that's it. It's kind of unplanned in a sense where if I have something good, we try to push it out and that's it.”
EDM Sauce
“Recently, you released your mix with Diplo and Friends. How did it feel to be on Diplo's radio show?”
Nitti Gritti
“It's great! I just signed a publishing deal with Mad Decent actually, so I work pretty closely with him. It's been fun to finally be a part of someone's career, in a sense, and learn from it and just really put myself out there, aside from other collaborations. It's kind of nice to be around someone that's really good and already established. That makes us kind of a staple of moving up.”
EDM Sauce
“Speaking of collaborations, is there a particular person you would love to collaborate with?”
Nitti Gritti
“Outside of electronic music, I would really love to work with Chris Martin from Coldplay. He's one of the big ones. There's so many people, even just random ones, like some of my favorite bands like Slipknot or someone in metal. I think that'd be really cool. Random rappers like Childish Gambino, who's a huge influence, Travis Scott, or someone like that. Obviously, in electronic music, I'd love to collaborate with everybody in the scene, but obviously, you'd want to do that, but those are the other people I'd like to work with.”
EDM Sauce
“Did you always want to be a music maker ever since you were younger or did you want to be something else?”
Nitti Gritti
“I really realized it when I was in twelfth grade and then when I went to college my first year, I just couldn't figure anything out. All I did was make music, so ever since then I've just never had a plan b, nothing. There's nothing else I would want to do.”
