There is little debate that Eric Clapton is the most influential (living) guitarist of all time. From his time with the Yardbirds, to Cream, to Derek and the Dominos to his solo work, Clapton has been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame more times than any other musician alive. One thing that just about everyone never expected one of the world's most iconic musicians to do, especially in his 70s was to release an EDM track.
Yet, the year is 2018, and the laws of the world no longer apply. On his most recent release, an album called ‘Happy Xmas', Clapton released over a dozen reworked Christmas classics. Most of them are what is expected from Clapton, blues and rock infused carols with a ton of excellent guitar. Then there is ‘Jingle Bells'. Clapton's take on the track is honestly a full-on house track. Naturally, guitar riffs have been overlaid the beat, but don't get it twisted – this thing has a full on drop and everything.
It took me a few listens to believe it, but honestly – its kind of awesome to see an artist as hallowed as Clapton jump into dance music even this late in his life.
