Subtronics does it AGAIN for the fourth time in “Now That’s What I Call Riddim Vol. 4”. This long-awaited mix dropped last week and man, has it overtaken my life.
The beginning of the mix starts with “I’m just going to skip all the formalities and let you know that you are not ready. You’ve never been ready. You never have been ready.” And, he is absolutely right. The mix includes close to 110 tracks, featuring a variety of our favorite dubstep and riddim artists.
Some of my favorite parts of this mix are the interludes with various DJs introducing themselves, as well as the random audio bits Subtronics has included. It adds a sense of recognition and comedy mixed in with the heavy sounds he’s throwing at us for 36 minutes.
With the release of this mix, it brings up the age-old riddim vs. dubstep debate. There’s always been a lot of discussion about what is riddim and what is not. You can find a whole discussion about this on Reddit. It’s said by one Redditor that Subtronics titles his mixes “Now That’s What I Call Riddim” ironically because he’s not specifically producing riddim tracks. So, is Subtronics trolling with these mixes? We will never know.
Subtronics has even chimed in on this since the release of this mix tweeting: “And on day three he said: it’s still actually just dubstep.” So, who really knows. Needless to say, this mix had me getting down in my room alone. Subtronics killed it and I need to see him live again is all I have to say.

Ps, v4 is about to hit 100k in just under 3 days and I’m absolutely FLOORED. Grateful and honored is an understatement, all the unreleased stuff is coming soon, motivated and inspired af to give back for all this support ❤️
