TRXD’s latest, “Vice,” is largely based on a familiar duality that is reflected by its musical composition as well as its lyrical content. The release’s bouncing rhythm and striking melodies are immediate indicators of the track’s quality, drawing listeners in with its vibe. That’s where Norwegian songwriter Caroline Ailin comes in, helping describe the repeated attraction to the wrong type of lovers against one’s own better judgment. Through their use of evocative production and arrangement, as well as the utilization of Caroline’s captivating writing skills, TRXD solidifies “Vice” as a stand-out track and make a definite statement at the start of this year.
TRXD have had an incredible career thus far. The duo, comprised of Truls Drystad and David Atarodiyan, met in college and immediately hit it off, showcasing their talent by uploading remixes and bootlegs to SoundCloud. Since, the artists have accumulated tens of millions of streams, performed alongside notable acts such as The Chainsmokers, and have produced platinum and double platinum singles. Despite “Vice” being about making bad choices, Truls and David have a fresh perspective looking forward and are kicking off 2019 by vowing to make the right choices
TRXD sat down with us for an exclusive interview, check it out below:
EDMSauce:
When you two met in Kristiansand, what was the moment when you knew your styles were a fit to make the group?
Truls:
The first time we went in the studio together, we ended up with making 2 remixes on 1 day. So we felt it was something special with our work dynamic, and it still is.
David:
You know sometimes when you just click with someone? We didn’t force anything, we just talked and had a lot of the same interest when it was about music and Music Production. Everything went easy, and it was fun to make music. So we just kept on going.
EDMSauce:
How did the idea for the single “Vice” come about?
David:
We got a topline sent to us by our manager, and we all fell in love with it. So we started to work on it right away.
Truls:
Grabbed the guitar to just find the chords, but ended up using it in the main mix.
EDMSauce:
Did you know the hit “Our City” was going to be a top release for you? Was there anything different about the creation of this single versus other singles?
David:
We had no clue. We just made a song we liked, and peoples reaction to it was nothing like we ever imagined. Just make music you like, and hopefully people will react to it.
Truls:
When it comes to production its always different ways to create each song. It’s all about the vibe and what feels right.
EDMSauce:
What are some rising talent you are excited to hear new music from in 2019?
David:
I have a big crush on Billie Eilish, but I guess she’s beyond rising? But I am stoked to check out more of her stuff.
Truls:
Same
EDMSauce:
What have been some of your favorite shows to play as TRXD?
David:
Warming up for The Chainsmokers. No doubt.
Truls:
Yeah, we even got to drink and hang out with them after the show. Super nice guys!
EDMSauce:
What goals or plans do you guys have for 2019?
David:
To make more music that connect and touch people. It’s all about them feels ya know 😉
