Over the past few years, the Electronic Dance Music industry has seen a drop in the number of Australian festivals. For example, the once yearly Sterosonic Festival held in the Australian summer months of November and December came to an unexpected halt in 2016. Perth's Festival X which was set to take place in November of 2018 was unexpectedly cancelled before its inarguable year. Now, Australia's Mountain Sounds Festival joins the list of cancelled festivals in the land down under.
Just one week before the anticipated festival, Mountain Sounds took to social media to regrettably let attendees know the festival would be cancelled due to an enormous “Police & Safety” surge of $200,000 AUD. While, safety is and should always be the number one priority when it comes to festivals and live events; notifying the festival of the fee increase just one week before the scheduled event is more than a bit ridiculous.
