DIY HIFI is predominantly a record label and musical collective based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, founded by Ian Bevis, DIY HIFI features Ian’s musical collaborations with various artists. The latest release “Free” sounds like something heavily influenced by Bonobo, RJD2, and Odesza mixed into one.. and I'm loving it. The more I run through this one the more I am into it. Ian’s writing and production work has contributed mainly to releases with his band Bear Mountain, where he often references dance music sub-genres and indie hooks, his genre-blending production style is at home during the return to an analog era of electronic music. He has also written with artists such as Nelly Furtado (“On My Own”) and Jessie Reyez (“Here I Am”) along with performing alongside acts such as Bloc Party, Hot Chip and performing at festivals such as The Governor’s Ball, Lollapalooza and Sasquatch. Check out what Ian had to say on the release below, and under that stream “Free” – enjoy!
“This song came together organically. I had a loop of the drums and bass, which I kept playing it for my friends. One by one they all added something, whether it was a sample or guitar part. It really was a collaboration in writing and production.”
