Seven Lions and Jason Ross have collaborated on two of the most anticipated tracks in my music blogging career. The two dynamic producers are releasing Ocean and The Sirens. The two profoundly different songs will be released on Seven Lions new record label: Ophelia. Seven Lions and Jason Ross debuted the tracks during the b2b set they unleashed at Above & Beyond‘s ABGT 250.
Ocean features John Mendelsohn on vocals. This goes against the norm for Seven Lions, who usually uses a female vocalist, however, the deviation yields great rewards. The amazing lyrics and strong vocals are matched by a delicate melody that sways in and out like the tide. After a long hair-raising build, the drop crashes like a wave and you are carried away. The song truly blends the styles of the Seven Lions and Jason Ross.
The Sirens… There are very few things that render me speechless and while this was pretty darn close, I will try my best. For those of you who chirped Seven Lions is soft, I hope you have a drink to wash down that crow. For you naysayers who think Jason Ross can’t keep up with the variety that Seven Lions brings, I present to you The Sirens. This track is DARK and unlike anything I have heard from either producer. It begins with a horn like siren and proceeds to launch into hard-hitting psy-step percussion layered with vocal chops. The song breaks into a mysterious windswept fantasy realm somewhere within the Seven Lions mythos. Notes ring down as a marching build takes you to what is hands down the filthiest drop I have ever heard in a Seven Lions or Jason Ross track. The drop hits with such vigor that it is disorienting yet fascinating at the same time. Words will not do this justice, have a listen for yourself and I will see you on the other side.
