After my brief and short lived affair with trap, I am back to loving progressive and big house sounds. A DJ duo that I'm really feeling right now is Vicetone. Hailing from the Netherlands, Vicetone first caught my interest with the upbeat though dirty minded “Whistle” remix. Hopefully can conduct an interview with these guys soon, but in the meantime, check them out.
- Remix of “Reason” by Nervo and Hook&Sling. This latest track from Vicetone brings me home with big beautiful synths and Levels-esque happiness. Reminding me of the happy smiley glory of a summer festival, this is going to be on replay for me.
- Remix of Clarity, because who could screw up a track this fantastic, really?
- “Hope” a progressive house remix of Barack Obama's Presidential Speech – if you haven't given this a listen yet, hot damn, you have to give it a try.
- “We Come Running” is easily my favorite. I'm a stickler for construction and architecture of remixes – basically anyone can just throw some bass and synths over a good song and it'll remain bearable/familiar. This new take on Youngblood's epic track takes it to a new place (EDC, mayhaps?) and I absolutely love it. Very impressive.
The originals are harder with more electro and a great example of that style…it's a complete change from their remixes. This proves their versatility, which I think is important in this industry. Anyway, give Vicetone a listen and let me know what you think!
You can find a ton of these remixes on Vicetone's soundcloud for free, or via their facebook.
