I was not familiar with ye. before listening to the artist's last single ‘Forever Side'. I instantly fell in love with the sweet, thoughtful productions of the artist. ye.'s style is one with a mindset of “less is more”. He does not overwhelm listeners with over the tracks full of onslaughts of sonic fury. Instead, he focuses on curating an emotional experience of sorts. I was so taken by ‘Forever Side', I named it one of the best releases of 2018 so far. Now the second single from his forthcoming album has dropped, and it is equally as wonderful.
ye. – ‘2:38 A.M.'
‘2:38 A.M.' is indisputably a unique name for a track. But I think we can all relate to the energy that those late night/early morning times hold. It is a point in the night where feelings are no longer protected by personality, where the world in quiet and thoughts roam free. Listening to ‘2:38 A.M.' gives the exact same experience.
The track is pensive in nature but stays away from a melancholy vibe with thoughtful arrangements that seem to shimmer as if they were lighted by a moon above. ye. is making quite a statement with his latest releases. His style follows that of Jai Wolf, Odesza, and Chet Porter…but there is a certain depth in his tracks that goes beyond simple comparison. ye. is original and captivating but above all, he is truly one of the most impressive producers releasing music at the moment.
