Back on May 27th, NOFX was performing at the Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Las Vegas. The video obtained by TMZ shows Michael John “Fat Mike” Burkett saying “We played a song about Muslims, and we didn't get shot. Hooray.” He went on by disgustingly saying “I guess you only get shot in Vegas if you are in a country band,” another band member tells him, referencing the Route 91 tragedy. Burkett responds, “[The massacre] sucked, but at least they were country fans and not punk rock fans.”
Since his disgusting comments, NOFX has said that they have been effectively banned from playing in the United States. Stone Brewing Co, the company behind NOFX’s beer Punk in Drublic denounced the music group and pulled them from their own lineup.
“Fat Mike” took to Instagram to say “NOFX has effectively been banned in our own country. This is not our choice, but it is our reality. We are very sorry to our fans, especially the ones in Austin… It fuckin sucks! We made a mistake, we apologized, and we gotta suffer the consequences. Maybe it ain’t fair, but whoever said life was.” The statement closes with several hashtags, one of which reads, “#whendidpunkrockbecomesosafe.”
