The New York based producer and DJ sergioisdead talks us through his series of 5 Musical Guilty Pleasures – the tracks he secretly loves. Having just released his new sound “All Of The Things,” this artist is very firmly on our radar.
1) Lagwagon – “Know It All”
It's a great song by maybe the second punk band I ever heard? It's all about “selling out” and punks abandoning bands when they sign a record deal. I don't think its shameful listening, but the lyrics are really antiquated at this point and I would feel like a weird punk rock old man if a 16 year old caught me listening to it.
2) Fela Kuti – “Water No Get Enemy”
Incredible music that I put on when I'm cleaning my house, but I get embarrassed if neighbours heard me blasting it. It's the kind of thing hipsters would pretend to like, but I really actually like.
3) Suicidal Tendencies – “Institutionalised”
So weird and awesome. How did Mike Muir come up with this? I love it, but if the average person heard me listening to it, they would make fun of me. So I play it low.
4) The Band – “Rag Mama Rag”
An all-time favourite that I could never play for people because they wouldn't understand, and call it “weird hillbilly swamp mountain music.”
5) The Beach Boys – “You Still Believe In Me”
Incredible and beautiful, like everything else on this album. I would get beaten up for listening to it in Bushwick.
