In February 2019, popular Chicago nightclub the MID will officially be closing its doors. The unexpected announcement is the result of recent expansion in the West Loop and Fulton Market District. While the club itself was still fairly young, opening in 2010, it is one of the more well-known clubs not only in Chicago and the Midwest, but worldwide. In 2013, DJ Mag ranked the MID at #40 in the world, and included the club in their “Top 100” club list for three years overall.
The MID has been the host to some of the most memorable moments in Chicago nightlife over the years. The Blackhawks celebrated their Stanley Cup Championship with a set from Tiesto, Dubfire and Sharam reunited after many years to perform as Deep Dish, Claude Von Stroke and Green Velvet played a special back-to-back set that resulted in the creation of Get Real. It’s also been the go-to spot for many Lollapalooza after parties including a rare back-to-back from Skrillex, Diplo, and Hardwell as well as a back-to-back I personally witnessed a couple years ago with Dr. Fresch, Ephwurd, Getter and Ookay.
Until the dreaded closing date, the MID will host a number of special closing parties to bring everyone together for “One Last Song”. Co-Founders of the nightclub Lucas Kind and Nick Karounos expressed their sadness, but also looked forward to new venue opportunities in Chicago in the future.
“Unfortunately, the time has come where the MID's doors will be closing on February 5, 2019. These last remaining months will be a celebration of the past and a toast to the future. We want to thank all the fans, artists, employees, agents, managers, and promoters who have supported us throughout this era. As a token of our appreciation, we are putting together some very special events leading up to that “One Last Song.” It's been an incredible run to say the least but now it's time to turn the page as we raise our Glasses to what will be the end of an era, and the beginning of our next chapter.”
Stay tuned to the MIDs socials as well as our coverage for closing party lineup announcements.
