Last month the fate of Ultra Music Festival was thrown into uncertainty when a dedicated group of angry downtown residents rallied to shoot down a contract extension for the music festival to rent out Bayfront Park. The festival had been hosted at Bayfront for several years and the location became synonymous with the world's most iconic dance music event.
Since the contract was not approved the festival has been quietly working to find a possible solution to the location change. Fans were obviously worried that a potential fix would not be found in time for the 2019 dates. Now, it appears Ultra might have found its new home.
Ultra Moving To Virginia Key?
Miami.com has reported that Ultra Worldwide has been in talks with the city to secure Virginia Key for the 2019 event if the Bayfront contract extensions are not reviewed.
The festival is looking to hold its 2019 edition on the island of Virginia Key which lies on the Rickenbacker Causeway. Reportedly, the festival would take place in tandem in two locations on the small island.
Virginia Key is no stranger to large-scale events as it is home to the annual Miami International Boating show. CEO and Founder of Ultra, Russell Faibisch had this to say about the location change:
“While we are, of course, excited about the current proposal, this potential partnership represents so much more than Ultra’s impact on either South Florida or on the development of innovative production elements, This is still a work in progress”.
A vote for the location change approval is scheduled for November 15. Until then check back with us for any and all updates about the possible switch.
