You know when you find an artist you love, and you discover they already have 3 EP’s so you think to yourself how the hell am I just finding out about this guy now. Unless you are like me and scour the corners of the internet every day looking for new and interesting music you may be late to the party. Now is your chance to jump on the hype train before it even leaves the station. Lonshi is not a name you most likely have heard before but trust me you will hear it again.
Lonshi, also known as Gabriel Perez, is a NYC native who is quite the enigma when it comes to producing music. His particular style cannot be held captive by any certain genre of music. Part Electronic, part Emo, part Punk, part Metal, whatever you want to call it I am all in. Gun to my head I would say his sound is somewhere between Pendulum and Coheed and Cambria. Lonshi sings over his tracks and when you listen to his unique voice you can hear the pain and sadness that can quickly turn to raw power in a flash. On top of the vocals, Lonshi creates some of the most realistic live drum experiences but he does it all electronically. All of this combined with the amazing electronic production is beyond impressive.
This brings me back to the hype train still at the station. Lonshi has released his first track called Natural Obsessions. The song begins with Gabriel’s powerful voice belting out lyrics as the melody forms. The drums hit and the song takes off. The combination of Lonshi’s voice with that live drum experience draped over synths really give you a complete musical experience. After the break, the song builds to a finale that kicks off with a half step drop which then comes back up to speed and closes out the track. This is the first of many songs Lonshi has loaded and ready to go and if does not at least pique your interest you may be dead inside. Lonshi is the fresh new name on the block who has the potential to turn EDM on its head. Listen to his debut track below.
