Möwe’s “Down By The River” lifts spirits by displaying evocative progressions, memorable melodies and the soaring vocals of Emy Perez, resulting in feelings of warm nostalgia. Telling of sorrows being washed away, its positivity is enhanced by the catchiness of the recurring whistle melody and downtempo rhythms. With nothing but good vibes, “Down By The River” will solidly resonate with listeners.
The Austrian duo, Möwe, specializes in deep house and indie pop and have captivated audiences since 2013. In that time, the artists have dropped releases through several notable labels such as Big Beat, Spinnin’ Records, Universal, Disco:wax and countless others, resulting in more than 100 million streams. With their pop-inflected signature sound, production skills, and electrifying live shows, Möwe continue to expand their international reach. On top of this, Mowe sat down with EDMSauce for an exclusive interview, read below:
EDMSauce:
What are the music elements that makes Mowe click together?
Mowe:
Hello! We wouldn’t say they are is a certain element particularly that make us click together, its our visions that align and our outlook of the music we want to create. We came from similar backgrounds musically both playing guitar and playing in rock bands and when we came together we both wanted to create electronic music and it just flowed so well from there!
EDMSauce:
What was your favorite tour and why?
Mowe:
We absolutely loved our Asia tour! Malaysia, Singapore and Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia! We absolutely love the people there, the crowds are crazy on the dance floor but they are so open hearted and friendly, love the food, the culture and of course the beaches! We also loved doing our live performance shows, we got a full band on, DJ’s we played guitar and keys and a full stage set up! Loved going back to our routes form playing in bands and switching it up into an electronic show.
This is for Clemens or Melanie: Your music discography is becoming 4-5 years old under Mowe, looking back did you make the music you always wants to make and are you still?
Clemens: Yea totally we always make music we love, I think it would be hard to play the music live if we weren’t into it. Its insane the amount of music we have out there right now more than enough to do all day and night shows ; )
EDMSauce:
What entitled you to take on the “Down By The River” project?
Mowe:
We heard the topline from Emy perez and for us it had everything a good song needs! She has an incredible voice, her voice sounds so different and the lyrics all together had a certain feeling to it we really loved and we really couldn’t say no.
EDMSauce:
What are some of your favourite songs or playlists in rotation right now?
Mowe:
On repeat right now:
1. Arriana Grande – Thank you
2. XXXTENTACION – Moonlight
3. Summer walker session 32.
4. Rosalia – Pienso En Tu Mira
EDMSauce:
Were there any music moments growing up that decisively landed you on the path to DJ/producing?
Mowe:
Clemens:
What got me hooked on music was my dad, he dad plays guitar so he I brought into music at a very young age, I started playing the bass guitar when I was 12 as I jam with my dad as he was working a lot and from then on I wanted to dive into the music world.
Mel:
For me it was my grandma as she played the piano and she was so so good, she taught me some small classical pieces on the piano but I couldn’t read notes, I still cant to this day but I just learnt by heart and my ears and played away. My Mum played the guitar and my dad the flute, then I learnt to play guitar when I was 13/14. At Christmas time the family came together and played as a band! It was so much fun! So I wanted to set up my own band! And the rest they say is history!
EDMSauce:
What are some new festivals you like and old festivals you wish would make a comeback?
Mowe:
Would absolutely love to play at Secret Garden Party in the UK, would be so good if it came back, such an insane festival! Boa festival looks really cool as a new one! There are so many festivals all over the place we would love to go them all really! haha!
EDMSauce:
Whats in store for 2019?
Mowe:
We have just signed with Disco:wax and Four Music which are under the Sony Music umbrella which we are super excited about. This is our first single working with both labels jointly. So we have a stack load more singles to come, some very exciting remixes and collaborations and of course lots more touring to come!
