Skrillex has been making headlines once again this week. Kingdom Hearts 3 launched last week, and its theme song was a collaboration between Skrillex and Utada Hikaru. The theme song was renowned as an excellent representation of the game, and critically acclaimed almost immediately.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Skrillex explained how the collaboration process came together and what it was like working with Utada. It is an excellent interview and can be read in full here.
Update On New Music
One of the most interesting details from the extensive interview came towards the end. Skrillex was asked about his upcoming new music, and his answer was surprising, to say the least.
It has been a constant headline the past months that Skrillex has a wealth of new music on the way. Many artists teased that what he was working on would once again change the game. Many artists referred to Skrillex's upcoming new music as “an album”. Just about all news sources, we included picked up this juicy detail and ran with it.
Turns out that Skrillex is not looking to release his new music packaged as an album. When asked about the upcoming releases he had this to say –
“You know, people have been asking me about when I have a new album coming out, and it’s a little strange, because I never said I was making an album. [Laughs]”
But have no fear Skrillex fans, just because an album isn't on the way doesn't mean that Skrillex hasn't been preparing new music to grace our ears. It seems that over the last few years Skrillex has been getting settled and deciding what he wants his life to ultimately look like as he grows up. Something, that arguably, more artists could benefit from doing, especially with recent reports on the mental health of music professionals.
“I just wanna be human for a little bit. I’ll release some new music soon, but I’m just trying to do it organically. At the same time, I still love to make music, and I’m obviously working. I’m actually doing a residency in Las Vegas this spring and starting to do more shows, but I’m going with the flow and trying be in one place for a while.”
