Montreál-based Midsplit takes a new approach to ‘Lovely', with cold-hearted vocal manipulation and deep, somber 808s through single.
While Midsplit's usual releases tend to be light-hearted and full to the brim with positivity-evoking sounds, ‘Lovely' with NO-ONE, Jordan Kasedy, and A-SHO is reminiscent of Billie Eilish's dark melodic tones with a robot-glitched chorus. The introduction to the song elicits nostalgiac thought with vinyl-emulating effects over a childish toybox and vocals processed through the other side of a telephone line. A cinematic verse bridges the introduction to an obscure, gloomy and glitched-out drop taking the listener for a late-night cruise with dynamic ups and downs.
Canadian producer Maxence Pepin, known as Midsplit, delivers electro-pop anthems driven by groovy guitar riffs and dreamy melodies.
