It's good news for fans of Bensley today, as he releases his long-awaited sophomore album ‘Muskoka'. Four years have passed since Bensley released his debut album ‘Next Generation' on Andy C's RAM Records, which catapulted the Canadian producer in to the limelight and secured his position as one of electronic music's most innovative young creators. Now, after building up a loyal fanbase and having further crafted his sound, Bensley is ready to showcase perhaps his most innovative work yet.
A glimmering tribute to the Canadian region of Muskoka (where Bensley spent much time as a child), the album calls upon reminiscent and bittersweet themes. Bold, unique and undeniably beautiful, Muskoka highlights Bensley's fluidity as an artist, reaching far beyond the constraints of drum and bass and touching down upon sonic landscapes almost dreamlike in form. From cinematic scene-setters like ‘Trillium' and ‘In Darkness, Pt. 1' to drum-fuelled melodies such as ‘Kilauea' and ‘Arpeggio Deluxe', Muskoka flexes Bensley's diverse production arsenal. Dancefloor tracks like ‘One Last Chance (Remix)' and ‘Do It Again' are added to the mix, sitting comfortably alongside jazz-laced vocal cuts ‘Secrets', ‘Under The Sunshine' and ‘Hard Times'. All saxophone sections played by the man himself, of course.
Bensley has come a long way since RAM scooped him up at the age of 19. Muskoka is the work of a well-rounded, multifaceted producer whose art knows no constraints. A souring journey of audial wizardry, Muskoka highlights Bensley's musical evolution and points towards an even more exciting future.
