The Lost Tapes has been a long time coming for Los Angeles based electronic duo Mont Blvck. Diego Cuevas and Jackson Englund have been perfecting their live/electronica hybrid act packing venues with their acclaimed Gari Safari party series. The group broke into the spotlight with their deep house collab, “Rising”, alongside fellow Gari Safari regulars Anabel Englund, Matt Ossentjuk, and Human Life. “Rising” received significant airplay and was even crowned BBC Radio One Essential Mix's track of the week.
Mont Blvck's last release was over a year ago, but most of The Lost Tapes EP's tracks have been rocking dance floors since the band's formation. Jackson Englund's vocals are cool and confident, fitting in with the dim and moody atmosphere. Mont Black's strongest asset though is their subtlety. The lead track,”Forget”, demonstrates this best, masterfully setting the tone before the crisp, snappy house kicks are unleashed. But by no measure is this release the same 4 tunes with different packaging, quite the contrary. Each track is memorable in it's own right, whether it's the funky bass line embedded in “Change Of Color” or the indie sounding, shoegazey “Before The Day Ends.

Great acts usually have a turning point where they stumble upon their sweet spot and The Lost Tapes hits the bulls-eye. This is the perfect introduction to their sound and a perfect lead in to the next decade. As the final track suggests, we're in for a lot of trouble with Mont Blvck.
