I have decided to create this post as a social awareness for others that are in the same boat right now, even though this post is not “EDM-Related.” With worries of the coronavirus (COVID-19) sweeping the nation, many household essentials like hand sanitizer, toilet paper, soap, and more are selling out quickly in stores. Currently, there are slim pickings at stores and even on Amazon. I've personally been scouring Amazon to round up some of the most essential household products for the coronavirus outbreak. Most importantly though, please don't hoard and buy more products than you need for this time period.
Toilet Paper
Toilet paper surprisingly is one of the most hoarded products right now in the market. While I personally don't understand why someone would need 20 packs of 18-roll toilet paper, it's unfortunate for many of us that only have one roll left in our house. Here are some other options for toilet paper that you can buy on Amazon today.
Hand Soap
Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds is one of the best ways that you can protect yourself from the coronavirus, according to the CDC. There is still plenty of hand soap you can buy right now on Amazon.
Paper Towels
Paper towels are something to always have on hand just in case. You can use them with disinfectant spray and they are disposable. Stay away from using these in your toilet though as you may have to consult a plumber afterward.
Dish Soap
Dish soap is a great household to have in stock. If someone with the coronavirus did make contact with one of your dishes, it's important to quickly scrub the dish with disinfecting dish soap.
Tissues
In times of sickness, it's always a good idea to have extra tissues lying around the house. We found some of the best tissues to have on hand.
Water Bottles
While the water supply is not being shut off, many are rushing to water bottles. While these are the 3rd most panic-bought item on the list, we have switched to a Brita for some time for cleaner tasting water.
Bleach
While Lysol and other disinfectants are the preferred methods to wipe down surfaces, bleach also does the Job. According to the CDC, they recommend diluting bleach solution (1/3 cup bleach per 1 gallon of water) for virus disinfection. Wear gloves while using bleach and never mix it with anything except for water. Because bleach is harsh for metal and countertops, you should rinse surfaces with water after disinfecting to prevent discoloration or damage.
