Saxophone-playing production maestro SoDown has finally unleashed his Get Up EP after teasing the music to his superfans via a cryptic three-part video series.
Out via his own GetDown Records, Get Up is a gripping, dub-focused EP, fusing bass music with organic instrumentation for a three-track thrillride.
The project kicks off with “Get Up,” a collaboration with Canadian genre-bending beatmaker Defunk and a synth-forward, reggae-fueled bass anthem underscored by SoDown’s flourishing saxophone sounds. Next up is “Badboi Sound,” a gigantic, vibrant dubstep banger with monsterous synths. The EP closes out with “Serious Dub,” a dance-floor igniting cut that pushes bass music boundaries with its infectious saxophone riffs.
Following his debut performance at Red Rocks five years ago as support for Pretty Lights, SoDown is making his triumphant return to the iconic venue on Friday, April 8 as a part of the ‘BOOGIE T ON THE ROCKS’ event. The show is an opportunity for the Denver-based polymath to showcase his new EP and unmistakable brand of thunderous, gritty bass—qualities that will surely please his dedicated fanbase who celebrate the producer’s experimental soundscapes and homegrown authenticity.
Following his Red Rocks set, the saxophone-wielding bass purveyor will tour the US this year, with performances at Summer Camp Music Festival, Chicago’s historic Aragon Ballroom, The Gorge Amphitheatre, Forbidden Kingdom Festival, and many more.
SoDown’s “Get Up” collaborator Defunk has made a distinct name for himself in the electronic music scene with his live keyboard-infused bass music. Defunk’s unique fusion of funk, blues, soul and heavy bass music have cemented him as a true genre-blending connoisseur. Defunk’s versatility across his DJ sets and live performances has earned him plaudits from Pretty Lights, GRiZ and Gramatik, and seen him take the stage at Red Rocks, Electric Forest Festival, Shambhala Festival, and many more.
