Elton John is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter who has sold more than 250 million records during his decades-long career. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, he started playing piano at the age of four and changed his name to Elton John in honor of saxophonist Elton Dean and drummer Long John Baldry. He released his self-titled debut album in 1969, but it was his 1971 album, “Elton John,” which catapulted him to international stardom with hits like “Your Song” and “Rocket Man.” Throughout the 1970s, he continued to release chart-topping albums and singles, including “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Candle in the Wind.” In the 1980s, he began to shift away from pop music and towards more rock-oriented sounds, and he has continued to experiment with different genres throughout his career. Today, Elton John is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all time.
