In 2009, Evan Shapiro founded College Battle of the Bands and helped form a huge revolution in the music industry. Local natives competed in CBOB with notable artists like Mike Posner and Rozzi Crane. In 2013, “College Battle” has formed “Campus DJ – College DJ Championships” and for the second year in a row they are looking for spinners. They've already been to campuses across the nation including Colgate U in NY to ASU in Phoenix start the 2014 competition. Campus DJ is receiving sponsor support Monster Energy in partnership with Monster Energy Outbreak College Tour, Grammy U, and Chegg. Industry-leading judges conduct the contests at regional sites and each winner from each site will get a spot to compete at Avalon. In 2013, Flaxo from Columbia University was crowned champion. Contestants are judged on “originality, energy, and overall potential.” Numerous prizes go to the winners but DJ's also spin for their favorite charity presented by Chegg for Good.
UCLA's Bentley Montes and Yung Elvis lead the regional standings right now with a substantial lead over DJ FREEZE from Bowie State University. In their individual careers, both artists are blooming with new releases and excellent production that you can download for free on their new Soundcloud page. Yung Elvis just collaborated with Riff Raff, Lil Flip, and Crichy Crich on Tin Cup's new track, “Gucci Jacuzzi.” Check it out below.
