Escence Audio has just put out a crazy mix in honor of their new celebration giveaway that was released on the first of the month. The collection consists of relatively small and up and coming dubstep artists. This entire album is sheer intensity, and all the artists on it are worth exploring to hear their unique talents. One of the dirtiest and most badass tracks on the free download EP is Subtronics' ‘Stone Age'
The song starts off with an ominous tone that feels like it was ripped straight out of a horror movie. Just as the tension reaches a maximum level, a Godzilla sample launches the song into a machine gunning, relentless drop. The subtle elements of this song is what makes it special though. I realize that subtle and tear-out dubstep are not exactly commonly used in the same sentence but in this case it is clear that each bass kick was meticulously crafted. As the track progresses with each bass kick, the sounds that were once familiar continue to be more and more distorted keeping you guessing until the very end. So whether you are a seasoned veteran of dubstep fandom or just looking for something new and fresh in the world of bass, this is a great place to start.
