Check out this smooth psychedelic tune below from ILLUMNTR called “Dark Days” off their forthcoming album “Soul Sister.”
The Brooklyn-based duo of singer Bryn Austin Bellomy and guitarist John Russell make up ILLUMNTR, self-described “church trap” and “deep space gospel.” They are a bold, progressive movement of vintage soul funk in the New Age indie electronica wave. “Dark Days” is just a taste of ILLUMNTR's album “Soul Sister” which drops on Lowtemp next Monday, July 7th. Check out the tune below and get a free download.
Interestingly, the album title “Soul Sister” stems from Bellomy's self-realization of his unborn twin sister, channeled through him by a psychic six years ago. The artwork below “Dark Days” below features an astronaut hunched over on a Mars-like planet in self-defeat. The image is supposed to represent a lost soul unaware of (or longing for) its long lost twin. In another image from “Soul Sister,” the astronaut is approaching a bear on the same landscape, which symbolizes the spirit of the twin in a compelling form. The tremendous artwork is done by Charley Robinson.
Along with Gramatik and others, ILLUMNTR has already played at Webster Hall and Red Rocks this year. They are a highly revered live act. Check them out on social media for updates and listen to “Dark Days” below.
