“My Heart” is the new single from 11 11, a collaborative album which pairs rap impresario Diddy (or Puff Daddy) with deep house staple, Guy Gerber.
“My Heart” is a slowly building deep-house track with a funkified bass line that softly adds a swing to the track. As the song progresses, Diddy's verse drops in suddenly bouncing along with and sometimes just behind the the house kicks before revving back up again. Gerber's production is gorgeous – the addition of post-rock sounding guitar line and other ethereal sounds helps give the track a very unique sound. While each artist is great on their own, the track lacks balance; Diddy's verse just doesn't sound natural, as if Gerber simply built around an a capella.
With the explosion of trap in the last few years, its great to see other producers crossing over to contribute to more pop-centric pieces. Gerber's deep-house sound is an especially interesting juxtaposition with Diddy, who is known for bigger tracks. Stay tuned for more from this collaboration – if this track is any indicator, we should be in for some great surprises.
