The Void is Egbert's newest 13 song concept album that will be released today 7/22/2014 on his own label Fuzion Muzik and can be purchased on iTunes here . We were extremely lucky to have a pre release copy of the album and I personally can not thank the Egbert camp enough. Without further ado here is the full album review.
I have been a fan of James Egbert for over three years now. I was first hooked on James' complextro style when I heard the Blackhawk EP. There are many producer/dj's that have a great sound but no real connection to the fan base. James Egbert is not one of those people. Follow James on Twitter Here and you will see for yourself.
Opening the album is The Crest. This is a beautiful way to start off this complex album. It is a melodic buildup that explodes into the next song.
Tear the Facade jumps right out at you. This powerful track is a glitchy complextro masterpiece with hard hitting bass. The middle of the song breaks down into a beautiful melody with vocals by Taylr Renee, who has worked with artists such as Axwell, Paris Blohm, and Tom Swoon.
The Third track on The Void is Exit Wounds. This is an electro house track that has James' signature ya ya's and wet distorted bass. The song has elegant vocals from Nina Sung, who has worked with the talented producer Revolvr.
The next song Falling or Fallen starts off as a drum thumping electro house track that fades perfectly into a bass filled dream sequence. Egbert provides bouncy vocals to the track that allow his emotions to really shine through.
The fifth track is Smoke Signal. This song starts off with some amazing piano work. James leads you to believe he is going to slow down for a bit only to bring in his full drum kicks and filthy bass. This all leads up to a FEED ME type groove filled drop that damn near broke my neck from bobbing the first time I heard it.
Next up is a collaboration with ETC(!) ETC(!) called The Climb. True to the song name, it is a building electro house track that releases into a rolling bass driven hit. The Synth work on The Climb provides a truly amazing back drop for a punchy bass line that will push your speakers to the limit.
Evening's Gradient is a bridge between the sixth and eighth track. This is your first chance to catch your breath and appreciate the sounds created by James. This is more than a filler track it's a building block for what is to come.
Autumn's Fading Sun is a complextro track that showcases James Egberts sound manufacturing skills. There is nothing fading about this song. The song rises and falls with vocals again provided by James proving once again that he is more of an artist rather than just a producer who djs.
Broken makes me think that the character in this epic saga is about to give up. This is a progressive electro piece that guides you along the journey.
Following Broken is Pep Talk.This song is a genre bending gem that starts off with aggresive strings that build with James' vocals and then unleash into a dubstep like drop. In spite of the dark tones to the track it is an uplifting song that shows Egbert's range in EDM.
Shifting to a more aesthetic path You and Me has almost a Daft Punk feel at first. This is a beautifuly produced house track that needs to be heard at full volume with windows down. You and Me is a song with delightful melodies and smoother bass than you might be used to coming from Egbert but it fits the song perfectly.
Floating is another collaboration, this time with the Brazilian duo Dirtyloud. This feel good track will be sure to get you moving. With dirty drops and screaming synths this track washes over you in a wave of complextro.
The final chapter of this album is Zenith. Showing his growth as a producer Egbert drops some dnb on you. A climax of energy Zenith shifts into a drumstep whirlwind finally fading off bringing The Void to a close.
