While most of the attention in the festival scene has been focused on the northern states as of late, Imagine Festival has come through with a lineup to change all that. But before I start fanboying about all the awesome acts, let's take a look at some pertinent information first.
When & Where: Imagine is being held on Labor Day Weekend from August 30th to 31st in the middle of downtown Atlanta. While I have not been to the listed venue, it looks like the festival grounds will be split between the Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park. The former of which is a 17 acre park featuring a amphitheater, skate park and splash fountain, while the latter appears to be a music venue that sports a large outdoor stage. Who:
Okay now onto the part you guys really care about, the music. So to make things easier, I'm just gonna mention a few of the acts that in my own non-professional opinion really stand out as must-see.
Destroid: I think Destroid is one of the best acts in the country currently, with a stage production that is second to none and an awesome hard hitting sound that left me exhausted when I saw them last at Camp Bisco. That being said, the sound is definitely heavier than most, don't expect any calm downtime.
Infected Mushroom: While I have yet to experience this awesome duo of mind-bending rhythms myself, they have long been on my bucket list. With dynamic sets that might de-calcify your pineal gland via the sake of the sound itself, Infected Mushroom has been killing it for years by blending genres into new creations that would seem strange if described. If you miss this set, you will sorely regret it.
PLM Music (Supervision & Michal Menert): Coming in as a “Block set”, these two geniuses of electronic music are sure to bring the listener on a wonderous ride. With Michal Menert fresh from his first Big Band performance at Sonic Bloom, and Supervision constantly bringing the great vibes, it should come as no surprise that this will be the place to be for Pretty Lights Music fans in attendance.
Minnesota: While I have personally been a fan of Minnesota for quite a while now, I have yet to see him perform live, usually due to acts of God. But if you are a bass loving crazy like myself, Minnesota is never a bad choice. His ethereal new album “Voyager” was released a couple months ago and would be my first choice of tunes if I were about to travel the stars, so make sure to check him out live.
RJD2: This insanely funky musician is another of my must sees. Partially due to the amount of brass in his songs, and wholly because of his ever-present vibes that leave the listener craving more, RJD2 is some of the dopest dope. ATL better wise up and be ready to get the funk down when this legend steps onto the stage for awesome hip-hop infused masterpieces.
How Much: As of right now, the GA early bird tickets are still up for sale but the site claims that they are almost depleted and a timer says only 4 hours remain until the prices go up. Not without a good reason, as both days tickets can be yours for only $100 with the prices set to rise to $150. Likewise, the Early Bird VIP tickets are going for $300 with a $100 price hike after the early birds are sold out. In my personal opinion, I would have already bought tickets to this awesome festival if I still lived in the tri-state area. So make sure to yank out that card quickly and secure cheap tickets for what's sure to be an amazingly good time.
