Washington DC EDM : Get Hooked on Phonic

If you live in LA, or Vegas, or NYC, you'll never have a shortage of edm events on the weekend. Almost everyday there's something happening in these huge cities. A couple of years ago, if you lived in a place like Austin, or Scottsdale, you were pretty much doomed to country music and indie rock bands. In an age of Las Vegas super-clubs, far-away music festivals and exorbitant ticket prices, it has become a rare occurrence to find electronic music legends performing anywhere smaller than a 10,000-square-foot venue. All but gone are the days of famous DJs playing smaller, high-energy, affordable shows.

Some super rad guys down in DC decided to change that. Music-lovers-turned-event-producers Robert Fairbairn and Matt Spencer, the creators of D.C.-based Phonic, are working to revive the concept of world class electronic music artists performing at intimate, fan-friendly shows. An 18-and-over event located in the heart of D.C.; Phonic has hosted some of electronic music’s favorite names including Darude, KhoMha and Max Graham. The Phonic experience is enhanced for fans as they get to meet the artists before and after every event. Living up to their slogan “For music lovers, by music lovers,” Fairbairn and Spencer take pride in charging a nominal entry fee that is given back to the fans in the form of top-notch talent. “We are huge fans of the music ourselves,” says Fairbairn, “and we wanted to bring that music to our city. With the Phonic concept, everyone puts in a little, and gets incredible events in exchange.”

Phonic events take place every Friday night at 1716 “Eye” St. NW, Washington, D.C. Cool upcoming shows include KhoMha (Oct 10th) and Stoneface & Terminal (Oct 17th). More information is available on the Phonic Facebook. See upcoming events and buy tickets here.
