You'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong with the drum and bass duo Calyx & Teebee. The UK producers from the Armada of DnB, RAM Records, are legends in their own right, but together have shown to be one of the most innovative acts in bass music, crafting an eclectic and distinguished style that melds liquid funk with heavy, minimal jungle beats.

Their 2nd big release of the year, following their collaboration with Noisia, a dark, menacing tune titled “Hyena”, is a 2 track package that goes back to their trademark sound. “Long Gone” seems to be the spiritual sequel of the magnetic and beautiful 2012 hit “Elevate This Sound” featuring the same intimately deep vocals and but with the addition of an 80s nu wave flare, a feat not often executed successfully with this genre, but in this case i've had it on repeat. The follow up track, “Sawn Off”, may not feature the substance of “Long Gone” but is a weapon nonetheless, maintaining a subtle approach then ambushing the listener with heavy bass and mind bending rhythms. More then likely to be one of 2015's most memorable DnB releases and another reason to love Calyx & Teebee.
