I was lucky enough to sit down with Houston's next big star Prismo between tour dates in his hometown to talk about his tour, his music, and much more. Check out the script below, or press play if you just want to listen!
1) Who inspires you when it comes to making trap music, and what do you feel like the future holds for the genre?
Zach: Well current artists right now like RL Grime and Skrillex are really bringing a new meaning to trap and blending dubstep with trap and they're pretty inspiring, and then just like older hip-hop records that picked up on the new sound inspire me. Even like Top-40 records, just learning how to make good 808 drums inspires me. I feel like a big split is about to come, because you have so many people making the big room screechy kind of trap beats, you have so many people doing that, and then you've got people making the sort of future bass sound that's really trending, but then there's some people who are making this genre bending, good music and I think there will be a split where the creative artists get the recognition they deserve.
2) What do you feel like was the song that really launched you into the limelight?
Zach: I think my remix to Black Widdow, it was like 11 months ago, but within two or three months it was almost at half a million plays, so it had to be that.
3) You're currently on a 13 city tour, what are some of the biggest cities you'll be visiting?
Zach: Well we've already gone to some of the biggest Texas cities, Houston, Dallas, and Austin, but some of the biggest will be L.A and Colorado Springs, and Minneapolis was just announced and there's been a lot of hype around that!
4) In the future, who do you hope you could tour with, and where would you like to play?
Zach: Oh that's a tough one, probably RL Grime, anywhere from Flosstradamus to Savoy would be sweet.
5) Being from Houston, how do you feel like having this local following influences your style?
Zach: A lot of the musician's I talk to have a huge trap/Houston rap influence, so a lot of the music gets shown to me is heavily Houston influenced which in turn influences me greatly.
6) If you could work with any of the Houston Legends who would it be?
Zach: Paul Wall is good, but probably Lil Flip!
7) What is the ultimate night out for you?
Zach: Going and getting a nice dinner with my friends and my girl, afterwords going to a concert, and then playing the after party for the concert.
8) If you had to choose one movie character who would you be and why?
Zach: Probably Starlord from Guardians of The Galaxy!
