An interesting story comes to us this week from the music publication Pollstar – who took a look at the top 100 grossing artists of 2014 (based on their individual tours) and ranked them. The list takes into account money earned from production, ticket sales, and also takes into account number of cities visited in the U.S. and worldwide. Number crunching here has shown that the 2015 numbers suggest individual artists don't go on tours as much as they used to – and therefore there are less electronic artists on the list.
In fact, there are no electronic artists on the 2015 chart. Check out the full list here. The Rolling Stones and Garth Brooks lead the way with the #1 and 2 spots. There's plenty of country artists in the top 25, dominating number of tickets sold. This certainly takes more into account about cultures and venues to think about. EDM festivals continue to rise in popularity as well, making the 2014 numbers even more interesting.
Last year in the World Chart (led by One Direction), Avicii was the highest paid electronic artist (only playing 30 venues all year) with $21 million. He makes approximately $750,000 per show on average. That ranks him ahead of Jay-Z, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga to name a few. The only other DJ holding down a top 100 slot is Armin Van Buuren, ranking at #74. Spin Artist Agency represents both Avicii and Van Buuren.
In the United States Chart for 2014, Above & Beyond ranks at #75 with under 5 million grossing income. Their nightly average earnings tallied $150,000 with about 3,500 tickets sold per show. Steve Aoki comes in at #94. He made almost $4 million in 2014 and made just over $80,000 per show.
