When I interviewed Justin (AKA Crywolf) about 16 months ago, it was the beginning of a very interesting time when I left my old corporate job and decided to dabble in the music world as a naive amateur. I believed strongly in two things: bass music… and live instruments being incorporated into electronic production and performances.
This past week, Crywolf released his debut album, Cataclasm. I'm proud that this is my 1,000th post here. Cataclasm” is everything the naysayers said EDM wasn't, and completely brings the worlds of indie rock and “future bass” music to the doorstep of a new frontier in 2016.
After about three years of work and spending most of his time creating in Iceland off the grid, this album is authentic Crywolf. “Cataclasm” refers to a break down or “violent disruption” – but this manifestation is just as much of an awakening.
Crywolf has taken Bass Music and broke it down into original, neo-soul dreamscapes. The song “Slow Burn” is about a nostalgia that hurts so bad that it's painful – and while the indie electronic fans will surely respond to this – so will anyone who can appreciate the great beats and melodies that keep this in the dance category.
There are 12 tracks in total – stream Cataclasm below and get it here.
