Under The Radar returns to EDMsauce to once again highlight new and upcoming talent and get the inside scoop on what's happening with today's most intriguing artists. In this edition I got to speak with Australian producer/DJ and longtime dance music prodigy, Tyson Iliingsworth, or better known as Tydi.
There's few accomplishments that 28 year old Tyson Illingsworth hasn't added to his resume. As Tydi, he was signed to the worlds largest dance label, Armada, at the ripe age of 17 and since has upheld a extremely busy, worldwide touring schedule. Averaging over a hundred gigs a year, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry, and releasing 3 successful studio albums, Tydi had become an A list electronic artist. But even at the height of his popularity, Tyson felt a growing void in his heart. Feeling restricted, disheartened, and uninspired to continue making music, the young producer began to seriously consider the possibility of early retirement.
Facing these emotions, Tyson, went off the record (or under the radar) and produced a slew of tracks purely for himself, expressing his true feelings in a way very uncharacteristic to Tydi. This deeper, darker, experimental alias became Tyson's new creative outlet, a project he called Wish I Was. Listeners quickly fell for the raw. avant-garde style of Wish I Was and the Soundcloud page quickly started to blow up. After months of secrecy, Tyson eventually revealed his alter ego to the world and was accepted with open arms by both longtime fans and newly gained followers.
Tyson has since been on a constant surge of production and collaboration, motivated to not just heighten his new passion project but more determined than ever to take his mainstay Tydi act to the next level. Planning a new album, set to be released in 2016, and an ambitious live show for Wish I Was, Tyson is at the top of his game. His recreation as an artist is warm encouragement to all musicians who have struggled to cope with their inner demons and how conquering those challenges is what separates the goods from the greats.
It was a huge privilege to hear Tyson's story and we can't wait to see what's next for Wish I Was. Listen and download the entire podcast below!
