Another EP from the Funk capital – Boulder, Colorado has just dropped, this time coming from SoDown. The ‘saxophone playing, bass music producing, funkohalic' takes you on a throwback-modern ride-along of his newest EP titled ‘The Journey'.
The six tracks on the album have a resonance toward headbanging sessions in the middle of a funky sax breakdown. Their names lean on the songs identities, just like “King Funk” features prominent wobbles alongside jazzy cymbal tracks and soulful melodic progressions, so does “Old School” bring in old school-sounding hip hop samples. By far my favorite sample of the album is the “Pusherman” vocal sample in “Feelin' Fine,” which sounds perfectly coupled with the chopped up jazz flute sound throughout the ending track.
If you're a fan of the heavy hitters of Funk fusion and Hip Hop influences then ‘The Journey' is for you! From the slow stomping wobbles of “Sun Go” to the bass heavy Jazz track ‘Royal Blue', featuring the stunning vocals of Maggie Miller, this album has a track for every Funky mood.
