When asked to be walked through their creative process, Disco's Over honestly had no idea how to answer. A “spontaneous combustion,” the music just happens and that is the beauty in it.
From the United Kingdom, Disco’s Over includes two DJs telekinetically connected, but known individually as Tom Brooks and Lee Alexander. The “Disco’s Over” name was originally created by Brooks alone, but after multiple collaborations, Alexander teamed up under the alias last year and the rest was soon history because their first release together was one they will never forget.
“Our Goodbye To A World remix is very dear to the both of us. The emotion captivated within it is second to none for us, it still gets me a little emotional now,” Brooks said. “But Reflections is another song that personally means a lot to me because the lyrics are very reflective of a time in my life.”
Furthermore, after multiple other releases in their first year together, the duo has (currently) decided to undergo a re-branding. It is not to be looked at in any negative way, merely as an artistic rebirth, or Renatus, as their unreleased Pokémon-inspired track is called.
“The re-brand is based around our need for something a tad bit fresher,” Alexander said.
“A new start of sorts. We both feel we have a lot more to offer and it is kind of a reminder to ourselves that we aren't scared to evolve, from time to time.”
The duo has felt that they have forever been evolving as artists, both together and individually. Previously, the duo evolved through their Goodbye To A World remix, but more importantly right now, they have high hopes that their latest remix will reach similar altitude.
Among the double digit number of tracks currently in the Disco’s Over production process their remix for The Chainsmokers had taken up the majority of their time in the studio. However, the Roses remix is finally perfected and ready to listen to below!
“We love the vocals from ROZES and the original track has always been something in the back of my mind so it was just a case of how and when we were going to (really) do it,” Brooks said. “We love UK hardcore and we love to switch it up a bit while maintaining our style so we reached out to Sony to get permission to work with the vocal and they sent it over! We had a lot of fun and I personally love the track.”
As the first major release for the re-branding rebirth, Disco’s Over hopes the remix will pave the way for the other tracks they plan to release in the next year. The specifics are relatively “behind the scenes” at the moment, but fans should expect to see major moves, both independently and through various labels.
“We have 20-plus songs so we have a lot on the way — just wanting to keep some of it close to our chest,” Brooks added. As well as the 20-plus songs though, Brooks mentioned an upcoming “BBC Introducing” interview next month and Armada single(s) to add to Right Through featuring Jennifer Cooke, which Armin van Buuren’s label released late last year.
Nonetheless, as these productions slowly reach their final forms for release, Disco‘s Over will continue to grow closer to their final forms as well. Brooks as Haunter has not yet became Gengar, nor has Alexander's Pikachu found his thunderstone, but they are training day-by-day!
