Yesterday, Ville Virtanen otherwise known as Darude, took part in a Reddit AMA.
17 years ago, Darude wrote a song called “Sandstorm” which did quite well on the charts, but has resurfaced once again after it became an internet meme sensation.
Since the single 17 years ago, Darude has released 4 albums, 30 remixes and 15 other singles.
During his Reddit AMA, Darude revealed that his “Sandstorm” was all based on a lie. The Finnish DJ has never actually been in a real sandstorm. To combat this, Darude countered by saying “AND, I've got a picture from a few years back, when I was landing in Arizona I believe it was, where I literally landed like few minutes a sandstorm blew thru the airport area and you can see the edge on the pic. I tweeted something like “I've arrived” with the pic! :)”
In addition to Darude's big “Sandstorm” ordeal, Darude admits he was once thrown out a gig in Montreal for refusing to play “Sandstorm.”
