It seems that everyday that you go online there is another mega festival being announced. Festival's that have 15 stages, 4000 artists playing and allow 100's of thousands of attendees. By no means am I bashing these mega festival's in any way, but when festivals are taken to this extreme, heart and soul is exchanged for production value. This is why when I saw Gem & Jam on my News feed this past week, my heart was immediately warmed.
What caught my eye first was the line-up. It is not huge, but man does it pack a punch. Personally I was a devoted listener to electronic jam bands before I fell in love with EDM, so with that being said this line up could not be any more spectacular. It is the absolute perfect blend of jam, electronic, dance, experimental and funk. Gramatik brings together a beautiful combination of dubstep, electronic funk, and hip-hop, while groups like The Floozies and Lotus demonstrate how powerful live bands can be in the realms of electronic jam, funk and rock.
The line up goes so much deeper than those examples as well. Side projects from the world famous String Cheese Incident dot the line up including the incredible improve band Eoto, and the recently formed The Transcendent. While Gem & Jam does not focus heavily on EDM, that does not mean it ignores it by any means! Com Truise the synthwave mastermind, fresh off his “Strobe” remix for Deadmau5, clocks in among the names and Desert Heart's also is on the line up curating a selection of excellent techno and house artists.
Gem & Jam takes place in Tuscon Arizona over February 3rd-5th. It is a camping festival, and offers so much more past just this excellent line up. Live art showcases, beautiful crystals and Gems, wellness classes from yoga to spirituality and of course delicious food will all be part of the experience. Stay with us as we continue to get more information of this year's edition and ultimately as we explore exactly what Gem & Jam has to offer for the first time. Tickets are on sale now!
