The popular English band, the xx, released a nostalgic music video for their single “On Hold” earlier today. The smooth and catchy song is the leading single off of their third album “I See You” which is to be released on January 13, 2017. Narrating a story of broken high school love, the video captures a sentimental and old-school feel.
Alasdair McLellan, a former club photographer, directed the video while it was shot in Marfa, Texas—a location where the band wrote part of their upcoming album. Depicting the trials and tribulations of being a teenager, the video effortlessly balances moments of joy with those of heartache. In between clips chronicling a cheerleader and football player’s lost relationship, “On Hold” includes hypnotic and striking landscape shots.
The Music Video is a beautiful tribute to friendship, love, and the ultimate realization that nothing lasts forever. The trio, consisting of Romy Madley Craft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie XX, alongside McLellan created a simplistic, yet moving piece to accompany a surreal, yet upbeat song.
