It has been the latest hot news item this week. The ultra hit of Porter Robinson and Madeon, ‘Shelter', which gave life to not only one of the most exciting tours dance music has seen in recent years but also a stunning animation video has in fact given life to a mini-album.
Well that was what was believed to be happening anyway. Porter Robinson took to twitter today to clear the air and explain that the shelter mini album was really only meant for Japan. It is important to release physical albums in the country, and therefore the duo has produced this small EP centered around the track for the Japanese market. It is no secret that Porter draws an incredible amount of inspiration from several Japanese art forms like anime. Here is him explaining the project to one of his fans.
@BarryByanBelter it IS a one-song, one-tour thing. this is a japanese-exclusive physical release of the song Shelter.

@BarryByanBelter it's still important to release physical music in the japanese market, that's why this exists

@BarryByanBelter the japanese label requested that we package the single w/ few other things (piano version, couple remixes, older music)

@BarryByanBelter it's an extended version of the piano / strings (with no dialogue!) version that i made for shelter the animation

@BarryByanBelter people in america aren't even really supposed to be aware of this release- just a single to coincide with our show in japan

After the brief conversation with his fan about the Shelter album, Porter proceeded to get pretty vulnerable. He tweeted out his personal journey through the last few years with a level of transparency that is honestly admiring. Check it out below. Even though we might not be seeing Porter Robinson on stage too often in 2017, we look forward to hearing the awesome music he will undoubtedly release.

2016 was better because working with madeon & working on shelter the animation reminded me that i can still make stuff i'm proud of
