We all have our favorite remix album, but Lido just released a compilation of massive future/trap tunes on “Everything Remixed” that may have some of us second guessing. The album features a versatile collaboration of artists putting their own personal spin on the new Lido tunes and needless to say, it is a beautiful masterpiece.
Jaykode and Dan Farber kick the journey off with their renditions of “Angel“.
Jaykode starts the album with the melancholy yet heartfelt vocals of Lido himself, breaking us down before building up into a soulful release of vocal chops layered over tasty drums. Track 1 also happens to be the most popular song on the album on iTunes.
Dan Farber shows us how far his musicality has come with “Angel” in relation to some of his earlier work from 2014. He released a boatload of awesome party tunes back then, but nothing with quite as much depth as what he has revealed to us in this remix.
Some of our favorite names in the game jumped in on “Crazy“, bringing us the likes of Brasstracks, Alison Wonderland, and Soft Glas.
Brasstracks did as Brasstracks does on this one. The drum and bugle duo hit us with a smooth brass groove as is expected, accompanied by fat drum beat that chills politely in the pocket. These guys demonstrate extraordinary musicianship from front to back on this tune.
Alison Wonderland brought a powerful banger to the table on this project. She starts with a deep low-brass drone supporting the vocals into a strong build before the drop, which consists of brass one shots over a killer beat filled with woodblocks and toms. Wonderland just recently broke 200k followers on Soundcloud and is one of the top 10 female DJ's in the world.
My personal favorite on this entire album was by up and coming Brooklyn based DJ/Producer Soft Glas, who just started releasing content in early October of 2016. His music is very subtle and organic, with a laid back, rainy-day kind of vibe. His remix of “Crazy” is the sound of sweet serenity. Gentle piano chords and saxophone riffs layer over a delightful rhythm section creating a trifecta of soul.
The tone of the album changes completely when we get to “Citi Bike“, which was remixed by Umru and Melf, both who put a very unique spin on the track. Neither of these versions sound anywhere similar to the original aside from the lyrics. Citi Bike portrays an aggressive and emotional tone in the lyrics, hinting at the battle between your real self and your emotional self when under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The song digs deep and had a ton of potential for a great remix, which both of these up and coming artists capitalized on. Umru has 5.7k followers on Soundcloud, and Melf has only 844. With the work that they did on these tracks, we can be sure to see some big things coming from these guys in 2017.
Minnesota and mossy. closed the album out with “So Cold” and “Dye“.
Minnesota put out a really chill vibe with a hip-hop influenced beat, which is no surprise to hear coming from him. Any Minnesota fan knows that this guy is beyond versatile, and this track lives up to all the standards we expect from him.
mossy. was a name that was unheard of to the majority of the EDM community prior to the release of “Everything Remixed. He has 756 followers and only one release on Soundcloud before dye. The tune is a recipe of tranquility, tastefully pairing melodic bells with future synths and vocal chops that send the album out on a flying carpet.
“Everything Remixed” is a solid album from start to finish. All of the artists who had their hands in on this did an outstanding Job and it is safe to say they paid their respects to The Great Lido.
